PTSD; starting a conversation

Surefire Media has produced a short documentary, Start the Conversation, for one of our clients in the insurance sector. Part of their business offering is to provide well-being resources, programs and services to 133 local government councils around NSW.

In recent years the issue of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has become a disrupting mental health issue many organisations are failing to recognise, or indeed address.

PTSD is a group of stress reactions that can develop after repeated and extreme exposure to traumatic events. For example, council workers may be exposed to repeated trauma as they deal with the aftermath of road traffic accidents, natural disasters and urban tragedies.

Our mission was to bring light to this important subject and provide a useful resource for local governments and the communities they serve. We spent time with a local council in Northern NSW, met some wonderful people working on the front-line, dealing with PTSD and grappling with the insidious rippling impacts it has across the workplace.

A huge thanks to all those who opened-up to tell their story and help us start the conversation.

It’s important to get treatment for PTSD. If you or someone you know is showing signs of PTSD, seek help, talk to your GP or mental health professional about the best treatment.
